I married in my late twenties and was very fortunate to meet a good person in a bar. I dated my husband for 4 years and we have been married for over 28 years now. And over the years, I noticed a pattern whereby my friends and daughters would seek out my advice when it came to their relationships. I have also successfully introduced three couples who dated as a result of my introduction and eventually got married.

Nowadays, I realize that singles have far more options to meet a large number of people through non-traditional avenues such as the internet, sporting events and social networking outlets but they still are not having success finding a quality life partner. I started thinking about becoming a matchmaker when I witnessed the frustration of my friends and family meeting people yet not knowing much about them. I thought ‘what made us different today then yesterday?’

Today there is a greater sense of anonymity with dating, no longer do gentlemen pick up their dates nor does one have any prior knowledge about their families or personal backgrounds. Gone are the days when you went to the same church and lived in the same neighborhoods. 

We had our family networks established which could quickly and easily filter the characters of men or women we met, some information we wanted to hear and other times we ignored it (and soon regretted not listening), but it was readily available nonetheless.

I’ve often thought about those individuals who have become disillusioned about their prospects. With misleading or outdated internet pictures, flat out dishonesty, and exaggerated claims…

Why would someone consider using a Matchmaker? According to Pew study, only 3% of internet users who are married or in long term committed relationship say they met their partners online.
